And now, a movie review ...
This evening I watched Casanova. Interesting movie, although it had some very slow moving parts. Fictional legend of how the revered seducer of women swashbuckled his way past the inquisition squad of the Vatican and several wanton women with trickery, mistaken identity, and the protection of a corrupt Doge in Venice. I think it was supposed to be more of a romantic comedy, and though some parts were clever, I didn't find it terribly amusing overall. The idea was cute, but there were some painfully slow and confusing parts that I'm sure were supposed to come off as suspensful and brilliantly intricate, but fell achingly short, and took firm willpower to prevent me from turning it off in favor of cleaning my fishtanks and kitty litter. The movie might have run far smoother and built up more on the characters of Francesca and Casanova if there had been more interplay on the philosophical positions and debates that the two individuals stood for, which unfortunately was the most interesting part of the movie as far as I was concerned. Yes, Heath Ledger was lovely eyecandy, if you didn't mind all the wigs, lace, and eyeshadow he was buried under by the costume department. Good movie to watch if you've got something else you'd rather be paying attention to other than it. I give it 2.5 out of 5, and the .5 only comes for Sienna Miller, who thought not the most attractive actress in the scene, still managed to pull off the intelligence and spirit of the character gracefully.
