I shall be telling this with a sigh
Somewhere ages and ages hence:
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I-
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.

After a crapy yearly review, as well as a craptascular raise, they just gave me another employee of the month award. 100% QA score, 100% attendance, no missed swipes. Give me a handshake with one hand, and back hand me with the other. Make up your mind. It was as awkward as one of those waiter trains coming out of the kitchen to sing happy bday and take your picture with a sombraro on your head. I think some could tell I was slightly less than impressed. Not caring that much.

So I finally heard something from NSAC. First time they're e *** as I was writting this, my phone rang. Everyone looked at me cause I'm at work and we're not allowed phones. It was the guy from dept of Agriculture. Wow, when it rains, it pours, both an email and a phone call. *** So finally, after a two week dry spell on any news at all, contact has been made! Nothing was confirmed, other than that they got part of my application, and are missing the other part. No supreme drama, I'll just have to make some calls and kick some butts(nicely) to get them moving again. I haven't been approved for the project, but I'm at least still in the running, and that's better than not!

If anyone has anything on the go to do good in the world, let me know if you want some company, I'm all about adding to the good karma this week.

So, on the good news front
I do have some. My puppy will by flying here Sunday evening. She'll be on the plane all afternoon, so I don't expect her to be terribly happy, excited (or clean) when she arrives, but that's ok, at least she's getting here, and it'll be less traumatic than a 3 day car drive. I figure a few days of quiet with just me at my house will help her get comfortable and calm, then a vet appointment with my fantastic vet, then, I'm going to take her to meet everyone. And everything. Puppy play dates are encouraged, so if you have a dog or just want to be social, we should get together. I'm not even going to give this puppy the chance to be shy or wimpy. She's gonna be tuff, friendly, and anti-skittish. Probably not ruff though, cause that's not so great.
It's also been a few years since I've house trained a puppy, and I've got a good game plan ready to spring, but if anyone has recently house trained a dog and had a really great method or trick they'd like to share, I'd really appreciate any advice, if it worked for you, it could work for us too.

Yay!! Puppy!!!

I need some good news. Perferably that involves me. I'd take any at this point. It's kind of sad when the absolute highlight of your week will involve you working at a dinner where you're going to be run ragged the entire night, and doing it for free.

Please, throw me a bone! It'd be swell if you could top it with a little bbq sauce too.

*edit*
I'm not going to get myself dooced. I need to stop thinking about work. Period. Even when I'm here. I'm cranky and I don't want to be here anymore.

I totally pray to my lucky little stars that I get out of here soon. Nobody likes a surly me.

So I'm at work, and I'm bored. In my endless surfing, I found a tarot reading site. I had it read my cards. Holy crap.

I don't really believe that fortunetelling is terribly genuine or reliable, I take it with a grain of sand. It's usually either death, misfortune, or so vague it could mean anything, and usually means only what you enterpret it to mean. This one really struck some chords.

There were things there like balance, scientist, prosperity through effort, earth, climbing the tower, renewal, escape, forward.

I'm just going to take it as a good sign, and not put any more thought into it than that.

Almost as soon as it began, it was over. :(

My marine biology class is over. It was fun, I learned lots, felt smart for a while and enjoyed myself. I recommend it to others, Pedro is awesome. We need more biology profs like him that take that extra little bit of pride in their lectures, answer student concerns with lightening e-mails and forward them to everyone is the class to make sure no one gets left out, and make sly little jokes even though english is probably his 3rd language. It took me forever to write the final, all 3 hours, but it was a fair test. Questions covered a lot, and were tricky enough that you really had to know the answer to put the full answer down. I only bulled a few. Now to bed, and maybe some DaVinci code finally.

   Thursday, April 6

Just scoped out the schedule for the next two weeks so that I could figure out when I might get some social time in. Yep, looks like that's not going to happen any time soon. I work monday night, then write my exam tuesday night, back to work Wednesday night, then I work 9 continuous 4-12 shifts in a row. Classy. Not even my long standing requested Sunday off. Shîte.

So apparently the strike is over
or by 2 it will be announced officially anyway. I'm glad, I'd like the term to end, and if the two parties that were fighting are content, then they've achieved their goal. Unfortunately, I still think students this term are screwed. I've heard that the contingency plan is that there will be one last class held, then straight to exams, no delays, no real opportunity to go to profs for final assistance on course issues or questions. Hmm. I'm slightly stressed and I only have one class, which doesn't really matter to much for anything, I would just like to do well. I can only imagine the utter panic some students are having right now. But really, the students are the last ones that will be hurt in the process, we have assurances on that from the administration.

One thing that I did wonder about (and no, I'm not demanding a refund) is where all that money is going to go? That's a little more than 2 weeks wages that the university hasn't needed to put out to their faculty and library staff. They all had strike pay to tide them over, so they're ok. I think that there were about 300 or so staff that were striking, and I would assume the minimum that any of them would be paid is 15$/hr (and from the graphs I've seen, most of them a damn sight more than that), and that they work an average of 40 hours a week. Add that up to about $360,000. That's a fair chunk of change, considering it is probably more than that with higher wages factored in, perhaps they'll be adding to the growing crop of buildings that they're sprouting up around campus?
