I shall be telling this with a sigh
Somewhere ages and ages hence:
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I-
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.

My messenger hates me.
Really it does. Apparently my contact list is unavailable and has been most of the day, so I can't talk to anyone. I tried to bring my list back with my other hotmail, no dice. Sensing some whining coming on, my roommate told me to call my friends instead. We all know how well that turns out. But I did get to talk to Alison on her cell phone and make plans for next week, so that's good. And so now I sit at home. Maybe I'll teach the dog to roll over....

So the philosophy of canoe has won out again. The whole, sit back, wait for it to happen, it'll take care of itself and come out alright in the end works! I've spent 2 and a half months doing the whole stressful part of the landlord bit with advertising, taking and returning dead end calls, making appointments, keeping appointments, waiting, being stood up constantly, being judged, and on the rare occasion, meeting nice people. It's totally exhausting, time consuming, and stressful, and makes me want to reconsider renting out to anyone at all. And then I rent the place in a 1 hour time span. They called me, came to see it 15 minutes later, flurry of checking who they were and realizing that we did know them through relation (it is pei people, who needs references when you can just figure out who they're related to and who they went to school with) and then confirming the moving in date less than an hour later. Good deal, and Binx will have a new friend to play with.

Phew, less stress for me is nice, and ties up loose ends for next year. Yay! Such little things can make life go easier.

We survived Canoe 2006. And we had fun.
I forgot how much I really liked canoeing. Good times were had by all, I didn't need to worry about work, or making it back to the slip in time, or being responsible for everything all the time. It was probably one of the best extended weekends I've had in a really really long time. Jeff cooked awesome camp food, Alison got us there in one piece and high spirits, nice boys let me sleep in their tent so I didn't have to set up mine, and I had great canoe partners that were fun to go over the rapids with. I even got to see a dragonfly get their wings and a stripped bass. I didn't drink as much beer as I brought, but I had enough to give my dad a late fathers' day present when I got home to hug my puppy. All in all, good trip. Same time next weekend? Posted by Picasa

I don't wanna work, I wanna bang on the drums all day.
Trying to take a nap while all your neighbors mow the lawn is not entirely easy. Add to that the guilt of feeling like I should be out mowing the lawn as well doesn't help. Two days more of work then we canoe!!! Wahooo!!!

Can't say no to a face like that. Yay PEI humane society dog walk, I hope you fundraised a whole bunch of money! Posted by Picasa

We dog walked even in the rain today. Not many people were there, but enough for her to make friends with a beagle and a giant poodle. They gave us a goody bag filled with treats and neat stuff, as well as a new bandana. It's twice the size of her, so we'll just hold off on that one till she gets a little bigger. The piece of a bandana that I cut off for her will do fine until then. She trudged through the rain like a little trooper, and then it was home for a bath, where she turned into a complete whimp and shook and whined for about 2 hours. Then she wanted desperately to be up on the bed even though she was soaking. Pathetic. And it was a warm bath too. But really, how can you say no to a face like that?

Allo Moncton!
The new job is going pretty well, although going out and doing research pretty much every night, and going in every afternoon to plan for that is getting a little tiring. I really enjoy my coworker, and my supervisor, while slightly... eccentric genius... is very handy and gives us a lot of free reign. I may not get paid for overtime or anything, but it'll even out in the end. Once the research part can't be done anymore because of weather and phytoplankton blooms, I'll get to sit in a nice cozy a/c office downtown and push papers around and enter data. And maybe throw the waders on again once in a while. Maybe.
Yesterday I took the day off and went to moncton. I finally got paid, and got paid for both jobs at the same time, as well as half a years built up vacation pay. It was nice. I can't remember when I saw that much money in one bank account that had my name on it. I haven't gotten to go on vacation in well over a year, but that's ok, I got to go shopping in Moncton. There's so many things I want to do with this money before it burns a whole in my pocket, but when I go to get anything, I have this horrible guilt that comes from never having the spare money to get anything beyond the essentials (and the occasional 12 pack). I couldn't believe when I spent close to 200$ at costco. Then I realized, I got a crapload of stuff, and I only spent around 200$ !!?!! I think I'll go buy more clothes, maybe even a new garbage can for the bathroom. Might even take my puppy for a new haircut. Who knows, I might really cut loose, I might buy some gas.
